Public Awareness

The TECC Public Awareness committee was formed in 2004 with the objective of increasing community understanding and awareness of the importance of early care and education in order to help create a common public agenda.  Over the years we have worked on many community outreach projects such as the creation of TECC’s community snapshot and recruitment brochures and creating a “brand” for TECC which includes our logo, letterhead, and the collaborative’s colors of blue and yellow.

In 2006, the Public Awareness committee was charged with the task of developing a strategic communications plan for the whole collaborative.  The committee hired Anita Ford Saunders of Anita Ford Saunders Communication to provide technical assistance and facilitate the process.  We were very excited to unveil the completed plan for the next year at our last collaborative meeting.  The over-arching message of this plan is that TECC, in partnership with the community, city and school system is committed to ensuring the success of all of Torrington’s children, age birth through 8.  Included in this plan, are the tactics we will use over the next year to get this message out to our community.  The committee is looking forward to expanding the plan to include the next 3 years.  Please click here to see our strategic communications plan for year one.

Most recently the committee has been working to help guide the development of TECC’s new website.  Some things on our agenda for the upcoming year are to find strategies to get our name and messages out to the Torrington community.  These may include: a news column in the Good News about Torrington publication put out by the Register Citizen, becoming a member of the Chamber of Commerce, or getting information about TECC to the Sullivan Senior Center.

If you are interested in any of this work and would like to join the Public Awareness Committee, please contact the committee chair, Abigail Rabinko. We would love to hear your ideas!
